I’m a mum to a beautiful daughter and a visual storyteller with a lifelong love for photography.

From a young age, I was always creating  in front of the camera, filming, observing, and capturing moments.

Over time, that passion naturally evolved into photographing others, allowing me to tell real stories through my lens in a way that feels honest, emotive, and deeply personal.

Kamaialei Photography is rooted in who I am and where I come from. The name carries deep meaning for me. Maiata means dawn in Cook Islands Maori,  a symbol of new beginnings, gentle light, growth, and becoming.  It reflects both my name and the way I approach my work: softly, intentionally, and with care. "Ka" and "Lei" is inspired by my daughter,  Kaleiya, whose name means pure, of the sea, and the beloved one. She is my grounding, my why, and the heart behind everything I create.  Together, Kamaialei represents motherhood, identity, culture, and love woven into every story I capture.

I am proudly a blend of many cultures Maori, Cook Island, European, and more and I currently live in Aotearoa while regularly traveling back to the Cook Islands, where my family has built on our whenua. These places, people, and cultural connections deeply influence the way I see, feel, and create. My work is guided by aroha, authenticity, and meaningful connection.

I love incorporating cultural elements into my sessions from black pearls and korowai to pareu, rito and tiare flowers weaving identity and story into every image.

I hold space for raw emotion, quiet moments, and genuine connection, allowing your story to unfold naturally.
